NOT BUILT TO BREAK
Where in the beginning I thought I was very solution-oriented and idealistic, I realized that it is not about the acceptance of people with disabilities in fashion. But that it is about a transcendence. Improve the body and victory.
In my collection I wanted to approach the body again. By starting from 2 worlds, the Greek statues and the old Military uniforms atmosphere has arisen. These worlds and prosthesis wearers all have something in common, the power they emit
I emphasize the prostheses in my collection and do not hide them. I consider them as an accessories. The contrast between hard, self-contained fabrics and thin, transparent fabrics is the main theme in my collection. The hard materials refer to the aluminum prostheses, the transparent substances to the fragility of skin. Also the mechanical feeling of a bionic prosthesis comes forward, to put this extra, I have stitched all clothing with thick yarn.
Personally, I think that bionic prosthesis carriers go a step further, they rise above the human being. This is partly due to the type of prosthesis, the more abstract they are, the less we see them as a disability. I want to break the stigma that the body is broken and show that it can only be improved. I hope that this information can be transferred to the public. I would also like to receive positive attention for diversity in fashion. People will no longer only see a prosthesis, but also the self-assurance and the ability that the models radiate. They will inspire society and other prosthesis wearers
The time for boring ethical discussions about disability is over. It's only through feelings of admiration, aspiration, curiosity and envy that we can move forward.
